Turning Point is a state-of-the-art media institute offering both short and long term programmes to students who aim to equip themselves with necessary skills before they plunge headlong into the highly competitive world of television and digital media. The institute is an initiative of Vision Northeast Foundation, a Public Charitable Trust registered in Guwahati, Assam.

The driving forces behind the institute are media professionals with about 20-30 years of experience in both print and television media, holding senior editorial positions in leading national and regional satellite television channels, besides featuring as commentators in leading newspapers and journals.

The institute aims to provide cutting edge education, hands-on training and mentorship through a variety of short and long term programs with its dedicated team of full-time and visiting faculties from within the Northeast and outside.

Vision Statement :

The Institute aspires to set employable professional standards in the field of media and design skills, training the students with cutting-edge technology to build a skill-driven community that can contribute to the development of media and design in Northeast India and outside. The idea is to train students and make them ready for a career in the industry straight away.
What makes Turning Point a unique and the first of its kind venture in the Northeast is the association of top professionals who are working in the field of Broadcast Journalism and design. Leading names like anchor and writer Wasbir Hussain, Syed Zarir Hussain, the Chief Managing Editor of News Live, the Number 1 channel in the region, are among those associated with Turning Point.



Syed Zarir Hussain
CHIEF ADVISER

A journalist with more than 26 years of experience, Syed Zarir Hussain is presently the Chief Managing Editor of News Live, the largest 24×7 satellite television news channel in the Northeast. Hussain did his Post Graduation in Radio & Television Journalism from the University of Central Lancashire, United Kingdom. As a part of his course, he trained at the BBC World Service Radio in London.

Awards & Recognitions

Awarded the Sarojini Naidu Prize for Best Reporting in English on Panchayati Raj and Women in 2006 awarded by the Hunger Project, Hussain had worked for various organizations like the All India Radio, Press Trust of India, ANI TV, Star Plus TV, India TV, and foreign agencies like AFP and Reuters. He also authored a coffee table book “The Undying Maestro: Bhupen Hazarika”. He also anchors a highly popular show ‘Prekhapot’ on News Live.

Wasbir Hussain
DIRECTOR

A well-known name in the field of journalism, Wasbir Hussain has been associated with the print and broadcast media for the past 33 years. Hussain hosts a popular weekly English talk show on News Live channel called ‘Talk Time with Wasbir Hussain’’ He was earlier Consulting Editor of Times Now TV.

He is also the Executive Director of the Centre for Development and Peace Studies, a Guwahati-based research think-tank, and was a two-time former Member of the National Security Advisory Board, Government of India.

Awards & Recognitions

He bagged the 1996 Sanskriti Foundation National Award for excellence in journalism. In 2005, he bagged the coveted Kunjabala Devi Memorial Award, instituted by the leading Assam Tribune Group of newspapers. In 2008, he bagged the Rotary Award for Excellence in Journalism.

Pranjal Kumar Hazarika
HEAD-OPERATIONS

A Civil Engineer by training, Pranjal Kumar Hazarika is a name synonymous with the Out-of-home Media Advertising (OOH) community in Northeast India.

A successful entrepreneur, he heads the Hazarika Group along with a host of other competent professionals. Activities of the Group dates back to the early nineties and have since been dominating the market given his dynamic vision. The Group’s clientele in construction, beautification and the maintenance industry, apart from advertising, mainly comprise Government and Private entities.

Hazarika is also, a keen social activist.
